Helpline volunteers needed!

Posted: 18 February 2015

Would you like to help others with PMR and GCA by offering telephone support? Are you a good listener, with experience and understanding of PMR and GCA? We’re looking for volunteers to join our existing excellent Helpline team, and help us provide more support to more people in need.

Our Helpline is often the first point of contact for people who have been diagnosed with PMR and GCA, and their friends or family members.  We cannot offer any specific clinical/medical advice – the Helpline gives callers the opportunity to share their experiences/issues and then provides them with support (or links to relevant information).

Volunteers will have excellent active listening skills and ideally be on the road to recovery and in a position to be positive about the duration and outcome of the illnesses.  You will be given support from experienced volunteers and guidance on useful sources of information. Helpline calls are transferred to your home phone, using a service which means that your number is never visible to callers.

You will need to be able to commit to providing regular support – ideally on a weekly basis, although we recognise that this isn’t always possible.

If you are interested in becoming a Helpline volunteer, please contact Sophy on 0300 999 5090, or e-mail sophy@pmrgcauk.com for more information on the role.
