North East Meet Up Group - July 2019

Our next meeting will take place in Durham on:

Tuesday 16th July at 1pm to 3.30pm
St Aidan's Parish Hall, Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, DH1 5BL

There is adequate parking at the Parish Hall, and it is situated only 0.5miles from the A167, Durham train and bus stations.

We are delighted to be able to confirm that we have two guest speakers -

Dr Sarah Mackie and Mr Saravanan Vadivelu.

Both are medical professionals and have been heavily involved in research and consultations with PMRGCAuk over the past decade.  The are going to deliver a presentation:

"What is the best way for GP's and Doctors to give instructions for long term steroid titration"
as well as how the North East GP training is progressing.

It will be an interesting and informative meeting

North East Meeting Report for March 2019 meeting

The inaugural meeting of the remodelled PMRGCAuk North East Support Group met for the first time on Thursday 28th March 2019 at St. Aidan’s Parish Hall, Durham.

We had just over 20 people attending and they arrived from a variety of places - Penrith, Whitby, Saltburn, Edmundbyers, Ashington as well as local places.

John Robson welcomed everyone and gave a summary about the new group rising like a phoenix from the ashes from the legacy. He thanked Mavis, Pam, Margaret and Lynne for all their hard work and hoped this group is part of their legacy.

Wendy Morrison (National Trustee) attended from Somerset and introduced the national charity.

There was a discussion about the way forward in the North East before the group discussed PMR and GCA health issues.

There was a very full table of homebakes which went down extremely well and a good raffle.

John delivered a humorous and thought-provoking powerpoint presentation which introduced his A-Z of Life in Remission with Polymyalgia Rheumatica.

John will continue to organise two or three large meetings per year in Durham which will include a speaker and this will be supported by local meet-up groups similar to other Support Groups around the UK.

For further information and support please contact John at or the national charity website which has contact details.

North East Group meeting - March 2019

In October 2018, sadly the North East held their last meeting under their own charity.

For over 10 years the local team have done quite simply a terrific job supporting local people, raising awareness, encouraging and financially supporting research.  It is such a great shame that they were not able to continue their inspiring work.

However, we could not possibly, let local support for people in the North East come to an end.  So on Thursday 28th March 2019 John Robson who was a trustee of the original North East Charity and Wendy Morrison a trustee of PMRGCAuk will be holding the very first meeting in the North East under the umbrella of the National Charity.

If you would like to join us and find out about the exciting suggestions we have for providing support in your area going forward please come along.

We will be at St Aidan's Parish Church Hall, Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, DH1 5DT from 1.30pm to 4.00pm.
