Maidstone Meet Up - October 2017 Report

Maidstone Group 's October meeting at the Hilton Hotel was attended by nine people, with one lady who was a "newbie" to the group.

One member handed over a number of "message in a bottle" bottles, which were distributed to those present, all agreeing that it was an excellent idea.

Topics at the meeting varied from everyone saying how much they had learnt from my pharmacist's talk at the last meeting to Super Foods, Calcium tablets and Alendronic Acid and how the latter can affect one's dental care, and whether we should indulge in a light luncheon on the day of our November meeting which will be the last of this year.

In the Super Foods category, Margaret told everyone that 4 prunes a day, besides having the more widely known laxative property, can slow the thinning of bones and can help restore bone density by absorbing more vitamin D and calcium. Prunes are also a valuable source of iron. I also told everyone that it is best not to drink tea after a meal since the tea will bind to the iron in the food and prevent its absorption by the body.

Next month we are hoping to return to The Early Bird which is being refurbished this month.

Maidstone Meet Up - October 2017 (and September Meet Up Report)

The Maidstone group had their first speaker, Pal, a local pharmacist, at the September meeting.  Fifteen people attended the meeting and Pal was bombarded with questions. He fielded them all with great aplomb.

This was the group's first meeting at The Early Bird pub, Grove Green, and although things didn't go entirely to plan it was a great improvement on our old meeting place. Brenda ran a raffle, Margaret brought some plants for sale and the coffee money was generously given back to us for the charity by the manager.

We will be unable to use the Early Bird again next month as it is being refurbished but we are welcome after that.

In October, we will return to the Hilton Hotel but hope that thereafter our "home" will be the Early Bird which has ample parking.

Next Meet up is on the 23rd October 2017.
